BLADDER SCAN MACHINE ARRIVES AT FAIRVIEW

This machine makes it possible for the medical staff to determine in a non-invasive manner the contents of a resident’s bladder. This will make for a much better quality of life for our residents and it will mean less chance for infection and other complications. Fairview is the only nursing home in southeastern Connecticut to have such a machine. Picture with the Bladder Scan are nurses Jenny Axson and Joanne Golembeski.

Fairview has been in the process of implementing a culture change for several years. The focus is on empowering residents to have more direct input into how they lead their daily lives. Giving residents as many choices as possible is at the heart of this program. The idea is to make Fairview more like a home and less like an institution. One of the initiatives was to create a ‘neighborhood’ environment which includes street names for hallways. A street naming contest was organized by the resident council along with staff. The winning names are: Coast Guard View; Sailors Walk; Bridge Street; Ferry Crossing; Nautilus Place; Captains Walk; Thames River Drive; and Galley Lane. Pictured with one of the signs is: (L-R) Tomi Stanley, recreation director, Mary McNeil, resident council president, and Deb Morgan, director of nursing.
